Tiny Acts of Whimsy That Change Everything
Lately, living whimsically has made its way onto my TikTok algorithm—and honestly? I’m here for it.
No, it doesn’t fix any of the brokenness in the world. It doesn’t erase the heaviness, the stress, or the long to-do lists. But it does invite something else in: joy. Play. Presence. A gentle reminder that life doesn’t always have to feel so serious.
I’m not an expert on this. I’m just dipping my toes in. Honestly, I’m writing this blog post mostly for accountability. I want to remember that even on the hardest days, I can still choose lightness. I can still choose wonder. I can still choose fun.
From what I understand, “living whimsically” is about adding little sparks of fun into otherwise ordinary days. It’s about glittering the edges of the mundane—not to escape real life, but to make it more livable.
Here’s how I’m planning to start:
🌈 1. Pick a Random Theme Day
One day soon, I’m going to declare a random “Blue Day” in our house. We’ll all wear blue. Maybe we’ll eat something blue-ish. Maybe I’ll find a silly blue playlist. It doesn't need to be perfect or Pinterest-worthy—just a moment of shared silliness.
🍽 2. Fancy Dinner at Home (Chicken Nuggets Optional)
We’ll pretend we’re at a fancy restaurant—at our own kitchen table. Everyone dresses up (even if it’s just a costume or a fun hat). We’ll use real plates instead of the kids’ ones. Maybe even put out candles or write each other "menus." It’s goofy. It’s easy. And it makes a regular Tuesday feel like a celebration.
🎬 3. Movie Night, But Make It Extra
Instead of just turning something on, I’ll make it an event. Matching pajamas? Yes. Themed snacks? Sure. Maybe we all build a blanket fort or pretend we’re at a movie premiere. Again—doesn’t take much. But the energy shifts when we treat it like something special.
I know none of this is revolutionary. But I also know that sometimes, when things feel overwhelming, the small stuff matters most.
Living whimsically isn’t about ignoring reality—it’s about remembering that delight still exists inside of it.
So here’s to the tiny things that bring us back to life: theme days, silly dinners, movie-night popcorn in fancy bowls. Here’s to joy that doesn't need to be earned.
If you try something whimsical, I’d love to hear about it. Let’s build this out together.
