How Knowing Your Values Can Bring You Peace
I tend to consider myself pretty "Type A."
I used to joke that my happiness was directly tied to how clean my house was or how short my to-do list looked. I love structure, routine, and getting things done — and honestly, I still do. There’s nothing wrong with any of that.
But over the past few years, something shifted.
While structure and productivity are still important to me, they aren't the most important anymore.
Today, connection — especially with my young kids — sits at the center of what matters most.
For a while, though, I missed that shift.
I was still pouring time and energy into staying busy, staying organized... and in the process, I was missing out on the moments that mattered most to me.
It wasn’t until I slowed down and really reflected that I realized: connection is a core value for me.
Recognizing that changed everything.
There are so many demands, so many things we could be doing — ways to spend our time, energy, money, and attention. Life can be overwhelming in a thousand little ways.
But knowing that connection is a core value for me has taken the stress out of a lot of decisions.
It doesn’t mean I always get it perfect — but it gives me clarity.
I know I can’t give my full attention to everything all the time. None of us can.
But when I use my values as a guide, I feel more confident about where I am showing up, and more at peace with letting go of the rest.
Awareness of our values is so important.
It doesn’t just help us feel more "aligned" — it helps simplify life.
When you know what matters most, you can choose where to invest your time, energy, and heart.
And often, it’s the small shifts — not the grand gestures — that make the biggest difference.
